Iberian Settlement
(Poblat Ibèric)
The Iberian Settlement (Poblat Ibèric) is located on the entire summit of the hill known as Creueta Alta, located 150 meters above sea level. Chronologically, the Iberian Settlement is located between the 3rd and 1st centuries BC., and you can perfectly distinguish the wall that surrounded it, and remains of towers in some points.
Due to its location, dimensions and defensive characteristics, this site is a strategic control enclave of the Xúquer river, which in those days was a natural border between two important territories such as Contestania in the south, and Edetania in the north.
A central road runs through the town from south to north, and in some areas you can still see the baseboards of the houses. A peculiar characteristic of the Iberian settlement is the large number of stones or millstones that have been found, almost all of them were in the wall that the farmers made to delimit their fields of olive groves.
It has been also found the presence of fragments of good quality Iberian ceramics or the presence of iron in the remains of weapons and farming tools. Without a doubt, the Iberian Settlement route is a trip to the past where we have the opportunity to learn part of the history of Antella.
