King’s House

(Casa del Rei)

King’s House (Casa del Rei), located in Plaça del Rei, was built during the first half of the 18th century by the Duke of Híjar in order to celebrate events related to the operation of the institution, such as the General Meetings of the Community.

It was also used to rent and offer rest to the deputies appointed by the different towns that drew water from the royal irrigation ditch to irrigate their fields, when they went to Antella to attend the General Meetings, or as a place where the carriages of the trustees of the ditch could enter the corral of the house.

A sign on its façade indicated that the King’s House was built by the Duke of Híjar in 1837, and that its name was due to the royalty of the ditch.

A noble mansion that was, and currently still is, the place where the trustees of the towns irrigated by the Acequia Real del Júcar meet annually for the assemblies of the private ditch of Antella.
